“Kareem Jabari Masey! What did I tell you about that room! Don’t make me come down there after you boy!” Legacy yelled down the stairs.

KJ huffed as he paused the video game and trekked up the stairs. Legacy stood at the top, hands on her hips with her face twisted in anger.

“You must want me to take that game system away don’t you?”

“No ma’am. I was going to get it done after practice.”

“Uh un, it gets done now or there will be no practice. You’re too cute to have such a junkie room.”

“I do look good, huh?” KJ asked, swiping his hands down his face in arrogance. Legacy tried to keep the angry face, but KJ’s little arrogance always cracked her up.

“Boy, I swear you think you’re all that. Let’s see if you think that after I ground you and take that game away.”

“A’ight OG, dang. I’m cleaning it right now.”

“Oh, I know you are!”

“When are you going to change my last name?” Legacy looked at him to see if he was serious. She didn’t know where the question came from, but she couldn’t say that it didn’t touch her heart.

“You want it changed?”

“Uh yeah, I ain’t no Masey no more...I’d rather be a Matthews or a Fargo, I deserve to be attached to people that are dope, not losers,” he mused. Legacy smiled.

“Well...we’ll talk about it later, right now you get that room together.”

“Boys are so disgusting,” Gia said, walking out of her room with her bath essentials, headed to shower.

“Says the girl who left her red centered panties in the bathroom,” KJ said aloud, then covered his mouth. Gia gasped as KJ bypassed her to his room like he didn’t just spill the beans. She told him not to tell anyone, and he totally disregarded their pact. Legacy looked to Gia.

“Gigi, did you start your period?” Gia looked away in embarrassment.

“I think so...yeah.”

“Baby girl, why didn’t you tell me? That’s not something you go through alone.”

“I called Aunt Cassie, she told me what to do and said that I should tell you. I was going to…”

“But?”

“I don’t know,” Gia shrugged.

“Gigi, there is nothing to be embarrassed about, honey. This is normal. You’re almost fourteen so it was going to happen anyway. You know you can always come to me...right?”

“Of course I do. I was just already on the phone with Aunt Cassie at the time, I’m sorry.”

“You don’t have to apologize sweetie. This is an experience that I’d like to be a part of. Anything you need, any questions you may have, you can always come to me. Okay?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Ew, lesson number one, do not call me ma’am. I’m a thirty-three-year-old bombshell, mmkay?” Legacy said tossing her tresses behind her back. Gia laughed.

“Will do, Mom.”

“Much better,” Legacy said with a smile. The doorbell ringing stopped their laughter.

“Go ahead and take your shower. I’m going to make you doctor’s appointment tomorrow.”

“Okay...can you not tell Dad yet? Just until I’m comfortable with this.”

“Okay,”

“And make sure KJ keeps his big mouth shut too,” Gia said, rolling her eyes.
